Camlaan are one of the most unique and incredible artists kicking around today. I loved Train to 86th Street but Dismantle has surpassed it. The track I chose really is a universal sentiment and I love how they tapped into that. Is Proletarian Funk a thing? Maybe.
Favorite track: Camlann – Politician Superstar.
Indonesian dark disco duo, Camlann, are back with their new fourth album titled «DISMANTLE!». Through this album, Camlann unapologetically talks about various social phenomenon, political issues, and historical moments from the perspectives of two Indonesian Marxists. These bold and critical lyrics are all wrapped in the duo's dark electronic sound that has become their trademark since their debut album.
About release:
«DISMANTLE!» showcases the duo’s versatility both on the musical and the lyrical aspect. Musically, the duo infuses their trademark dark electronic sound with 80’s synth-pop, electropop, and darkwave. Their influences are eclectic, with their sound cherry picked from the 80’s synth-pop sound of Soviet synth-pop artists such as «Альянс» and «Руся», the darkwave essence of Depeche Mode, Saâda Bonaire, and Xmal Deutschland, and the experimental and bold sound of electronic pop artists such as SOPHIE, Rina Sawayama, and Caroline Polachek.
Lyrically, this album is a living proof of the duo’s fearless passion on contributing to the liberation of the proletariat class. Tracks like «Politician Superstar» and «Your Death Is My Glory» criticize the hypocrisy of the ruling class and bourgeois politicians. Meanwhile tracks like «False Consciousness», «Proletariat’s Wishes», and «Alienated» showcases the struggles and hardships that labour, peasants, and the working class endured. These tracks validates the feelings and the dreams of the working class by writing it from their point of view. Other tracks like «Brown-Eyed Killer», «Die In Your Arms», «This World Is Ugly», «The Sacred Sacrifice», and «O, Leningrad!» covers various social phenomena and historical topics.
«DISMANTLE!» is what Camlann is: bold, unapologetic, honest, and real. And the duo won’t stop voicing the voice of the working class.
